Enticement and Judgment

9 April, 2017

(This poem is based on the vicarage double murder where the late Fr.Matthew Pieris was found guilty of double homicide and subsequently sentenced to death by hanging)

Fr. Matthew was once a pious soul
A faithful steward of divine grace
Until mortal sin invaded
via a tiny hole
The sacred robes, stained
with disgrace
Dalreen was a woman of beauty
Who found solace in that
cozy vicarage
She excelled in housewives’ duty
Faithful to her own blessed marriage
Their weak human minds
with lust did fill
Temptation can become
a dangerous game
Like a blind man walking on a high hill
If you fall who is there to blame?
The priest’s mind the devil overtook
Two murders were done at that
dim vicarage
Matthew had failed the most
Holy Book
With an act more serious
than sacrilege
Eunice and Russell paid the ultimate price
Matthew declared ‘ I am not guilty “
A misled victim of dormant
diabolic vice
He got judgment by the death penalty
The beauty of a radiant woman fair
Became the deep root of black sin
It transformed into a deadly snare
A man was convicted
and first died within
Here is a fine lesson for all to see
Beware of temptation’s power
You are bound, but you reckon
you’re free
Then alone, you face your
darkest hour
