Panchaseela

2 April, 2017

Code of morality advocated by five precepts
Form requisite foundation as highest concept
Avoiding killing, stealing, misconduct, liquor
Consumption, and lying are ideal to honour
Panchaseela is basic formula for laity
To uphold in sea of samsara for safety
Some commit sin violating above facts
But Buddhist, be sincere to keep them in fact
Not following Dhamma truly using head
Means, no correct path to tread
If not properly observed future is shattered
For Panchaseela lie, in essentials, Buddha uttered
This way of life outlined is the ideal
For correct living through eliminating evil
Many pressing problems can be minimized
Through disciplined lifestyle epitomized
Reveals path to life happy and contented
From this Bhavaya to next will be extended
To make this Bhavaya happy Punchaseela
For the devoted laity, is the basic formula
Panchaseela contains immensely valued advice
To lead a happy life devoid of vice
If one analises each in social context
Non adherence will cause pressing problems next
If you think of pressing problems for a while
Could be avoided through disciplined lifestyle
Those observing Panchaseela grow spiritually
And become fully civil minded individually
According to Buddha when practising
it becomes our own
Hence, there will be no room for any wrong
It compels you to take care of what you think and do
Observe life long, then actions will be true
It leads you to good thoughts, words and deeds
Also, free from evil behaviour and it’s seeds
Through Panchaseela one learns right and wrong
Keeping away from breaking sacred norms
