Davena Vihagun (aka Burning Birds), written and directed by Sanjeewa Pushpakumara has been nominated for the prestigious The Ingmar Bergman Award at the 40th Göteborg International Film Festival, (Gutenberg) in Sweden. Davena Vihgaun will be played in The Ingmar Bergman Competition. The Göteborg International Film Festival is the biggest film festival in the Scandinavian region. This upcoming edition will be held from January 26 to February 6. The first Nordic premiere of Davena Vihagun (Burning Birds) will be on 1 February 2017.
In the meantime, Davena Vihagun (Burning Birds) also has been invited by the 46th International Film Festival Rotterdam, to its Bright Future section. The film festival will be held from 25 January to 5 February 2017. The European premiere of Burning Birds will be on 28 January at the 46th International Film Festival, Rotterdam. Sanjeewa’s debut film, Flying Fish, also was world premiered at the Tiger Competition of the 40th International Film Festival Rotterdam, in 2011.
Burning Birds was world premiered at the 21st Busan International Film Festival in South Korea last October, where the film was nominated for the Best Film of the festival.
Burning Birds is Sanjeewa’s second film, followed by the controversial Flying Fish (Igillena Maluwo). Burning Birds was produced by Antonin Dedet and Dominique Welinski (France) on behalf of Neon Production, and by Sanjeewa Pushpakumara on behalf of Sapushpa Expressions (Sri Lanka).
