Labour MP Vaz investigated for drug offences

13 November, 2016

The British police has begun investigating British Labour MP Keith Vaz, who was known for his pro-LTTE sentiments, over drug offences, the international media reported.

Vaz was disliked in Sri Lanka for his open campaign for LTTE and repeating the slogans of the terror outfit within the British parliament.

In September, the MP stepped down as the Chair of Home Affairs Select Committee, after allegations of male escorts and drugs were made public.

The Scotland Yard on Friday has said they have concluded the initial assessment and decided to investigate Vaz under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. The investigations began on Thursday.

BBC quoting Sunday Mirror reported, “Mr Vaz quit as chairman of the Home Affairs Select committee in September after the paper claimed he paid for the services of two male escorts.”

“According to the newspaper, the MP also indicated to one of the men that he would pay for cocaine, although he said he would not use the drug himself.”

The MP Vaz, 59, is married and a father of two. - MF
