Deegeka Avith and Kandoskiriyawa will be staged at the Punchi Theatre, Borella on 15 November at 3.30 and 6.30 P.M.Deegeka Avith and Kandoskiriyawa are two great One Act comedies by which the audiences are thundered into roars of laughter.
Both plays are about life and its characters who laugh at ourselves, generating depth and humour.
Kandoskiriyawa is scripted by Somapala Gunadheera, a well-known playwright since in 1960s. It’s about some hilarious incidents that take place at an election booth turning into a superb piece of theatre enlivened by an exceptionally experienced and talented cast of Wijerathne Warakagoda, Malini Weeramuni, Daya Tennakoon, Grace Tennakoon, Lalith Rajapaksha, and Senate Dikkumbura and Sangeeth Perera. Deegeka Avith is an adaptation by Namel Weeramuni basing Anton Chekov’s “The Proposal”, vaudeville, which is considered a great classic. It’s a text book too for schoolchildren. During Chekov’s lifetime when it was produced in Russia it had been one of the most run plays through which Chekov had become rich, and was able to support himself as a medical student before he became a doctor of medicine, when his father was unable to support his studies as he had gone bankrupt in his business. Deegeka Avith comes to life in Namel Weeramuni’s production through Anusha Dissanayake, Anil Wijesinghe, and Pabath Manohara.
