Joseph Vaz College in Wennappuwa won the North Western Provincial Championship at the Provincial School Games held at the Albert Peiris stadium last month.
The event was sponsored by CBL Samaposha in accordance with its Dinana Daruwo programme to nurture young hopefuls for the country’s sporting future.
While Joseph Vaz won the title, Central College, Kuliyapitiya secured the runner-up position.
The Samposha Provincial School Games commenced in 2015 and has so far spread across five provinces, the North Western, Eastern, Uva, North Central and Southern.
Through the Games more than 18,000 children from 650 schools have the opportunity to demonstrate their sports skills according to the organisers.
An organising committee official said the CBL Samaposha 2023 Provincial School Sports League is designed to strengthen school athletes in Sri Lanka and promote their mental health and physical fitness that could pave the way for a place at international level.
