Boxing referees and judge commission holds awareness on rule change

The newly formed Boxing Referees and Judges Commission (R&J Commission) will conduct an awareness program for its members on the new rule changes today at the Sugathadasa Stadium Hotel Auditorium, commencing at 10:00 a.m.

The seminar will be conducted under the patronage of Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and the President of BASL.

Dian Gomes will serve as the chief guest at the opening ceremony.

The seminar will be conducted by retired Lt Col Hemantha Weerasinghe who recently became the first Sri Lankan to qualify as Deputy Technical Delegate of the International Boxing Association (IBA).

Additionally, he holds the positions of BASL Vice President and Secretary of BASL’s R&J Commission.

Chairman of the R&J Commission, Wasantha Kumara, highlighted a unique feature of this seminar which will involve sharing knowledge and international experiences of leading officials.

“Leading referees with international experience and International Technical Officials (ITOs) will share their expertise,” said Wasantha Kumara.

Lt Col Weerasinghe explained the primary objective of the session, stating: “The aim is to provide essential awareness and knowledge regarding the International Boxing Rules 2023 to all the officials who will be invited to participate in the forthcoming 47th National Sports Festival”.

The festival is set to be held from August 5 to 9, 2023 at Torrington Square in Colombo 7. (AO)
