Colombo women beat Indian Warriors

The Colombo District Women’s Cricket Association (CDWCA) won the T20 cricket series against the touring Aadishakthi Indian Warriors 2-1 to claim the Nippon Paint Trophy.

The three-match Indo-Sri Lanka T20 cricket Series was conducted by the CDWCA at the Colombo University ground and St. Anthony’s College, Wattala.

In the first match played at Wattala, the CDWCA Sri Lanka team won by five wickets thanks to an unbroken partnership between Dilani Manodara (35) and Sanduni Abeywickrama (17) after Chamari Polgampola claimed three for 19 to restrict the tourists to 122 for seven.

The Indian Warriors bounced back to win the second match played in Colombo by five wickets to level the series with Thanuja Waishwan stroking an unbeaten 52.

Dilani Manodara smashed an unbeaten 57 and Imalka Mendis cracked 37 to help the CDWCA Sri Lanka team successfully chase a target of 133 to win the match and series by four wickets.

CDWCA President’s XI also won the warm up game against the Indian team with Imalka Mendis being best player and Nandini Paliwal of India receiving the Best Fielder’s prize.

Dilani Manodara of Air Force won the Player of the Series award, Manasvi Katta (India) was the Best Bowler of the Series and Maduri Samurdhika (CDWCA) Best Fielder of the Series. Archana Saini (India) won the award for hitting the highest number of boundaries (10) and the Nippon Catch award went to Tanuja Vaishnav (India) and Sakunthala de Silva (CDWCA Sri Lanka) the Most Attractive Catch.

The chief guest at the finals was the Autofinish and Industrial Sector Sales Manager of Nippon Paint, Harshana Pathirana, Guest of Honour Mohan de Silva, Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary and Lakshitha Senarathne, Assistant Regional Manager North Western of Nippon Paint.

Nippon Paint, Hirdaramani, Perfetti Van Melle Company, George Steurt Teas and Fems Her Brand owners Hemas manufacturing company presented their products as gift packs for all the teams during the awards ceremony.
