12 June, 2023

Health Entomology Officer’s Association President Najith Sumanasena stated yesterday (11) that there is no reduction of the density of dengue mosquito larvae according to Breteau Index. He also said that dengue larvae density is measured by Breteau Index and the value of dengue larvae density is 20 according to the Index in the current context.

According to the World Health Organization, this index should be less than 5 and if it is more than that, it will be named as a country with high density of dengue mosquito larvae.

The National Dengue Control Programme states that since the beginning of 2023, 42,961 infected people have been reported and the highest number of infected people, 21,435, has been reported from the Western Province.
