
Strathspey Estate, Upcot, a part of Maskeliya Plantations Plc., was honoured with a Presidential Environment Award for the first time recently.
This award ceremony at the BMICH was organised by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) to recognise organisations from various fields for their contribution towards environmental conservation.
The chief guest was President Ranil Wickremesinghe
The award was received by Deputy General Manager S. G. Mudannayake who was managing Strathspey Estate in 2021. Maskeliya Plantations comes under the purview of the Arpico Group of Companies.
The award is recognition for various environmental conservation works undertaken in Maskeliya Plantations by way of implementing the compliances pertaining to internationally recognised certificate of Rain Forest Alliance, Fair Trade, UTZ, Quality Awards, and ISO 22000:2018.
The receipt of the award will encourage the company to commit more to improve the environment with the support of the staff and government authorities, a company spokesman said.
