The Chief Prelate of the Amarapura Maha Nikaya, Agga Maha Pandita Most Venerable Dodampahala Chandrasiri Mahanayaka Thera passed away at the age of 83, while receiving treatment for an ailment at a hospital in Colombo yesterday.
Following the passing away of the Most Venerable Aggamahapandita Kotugoda Dhammavasa Mahanayaka Thera, Most Ven.Dodampahala Chandasiri Mahanayaka Thera was appointed as the Chief Prelate of the Amarapura Maha Nikaya on July 20, 2021.
The Mahanayaka Thera was born on December 20, 1939, at Dodampahala in the Southern Province and his parents were Ediriweera Patabandige Saranelis Silva, and Edirisuriya Patabandige Misinona. The Thera entered monkhood in 1950.
He did his basic education at Matara Weeraba Pirivena and pursued his higher education through Vidyaloka Pirivena in Galle. On January 4, 2021, the Thera who did yeomen service in spreading the Dhamma all over the world was awarded the Aggamaha Pandita title by the Myanmar government.
Besides, many other institutions have appreciated the work of the great prelate by awarding him many honorary titles in recognition of his service.
