In any form of cricket a batsman achieving a century is a significant accomplishment, particularly in ODI and T20I formats where it gets more challenging due to the batter’s short time and the nature of the game. However, some batters have achieved back-to-back centuries while playing at their best.

But one of Sri Lanka’s most decorated batters Kumar Sangakkara unknown to many followers holds the record for the most consecutive centuries in one-day international cricket with four.

Sangakkara achieved the feat in 2015 at the World Cup that added further weight to his unique achievement.

In the process he made dwarfs of giants like Zaheer Abbas (Pakistan), Saeed Anwar (Pakistan), Herschelle Gibbs (South Africa) AB de Villiers (South Africa), Quinton de Kock (South Africa) and Ross Taylor (New Zealand) who had three tons each before him.

Pakistan batsman Fakhar Zaman made a last ditch effort to catch up with Sangakkara but fell short at the crease on Wednesday when he scored just 19 against New Zealand in the third and final ODI match at Karachi after making three consecutive hundreds.
