New coach for Antonians

Sri Lanka player Srinath Sooriyabandara who learnt his rugby at Isipathana College and polished it at Kandy Sports Club has been appointed as the head coach of St. Anthony’s College.

He was a member of the Sri Lankan Sevens team that won the Shield Championship at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and with his immense knowledge he is expected to guide the Katugastota schoolboys to play some good rugby.

Old Sylvestrians lend a big hand

Old Sylvestrians SC under the leadership of USK Kodithuwakku along with his Committee has decided to support all their school’s sporting activities on a large scale like never before. They have started by setting up a dormitory at the junior school for the players.

Gymnastic coach for Sylvestrians

Amal Rasanga an old boy of St. Sylvesters’ College has been appointed as their gymnastic coach and the new committee of the Old Sylverstrains SC are all out to support the sport in a big way.

Amal is an international Level One gymnastic coach who has produced over 1000 medallists in gymnastics at district, provincial, national and international level for over 20 years.

Apart from his school, he coached Mahamaya Girls College, Girls High School and the Central Province. Accordingly, he is tipped to help Trinity College too in gymnastics.

Mark Bostock memorial golf

The golf event in the memory of Mark Bostock, the founder of the Victoria Golf Resort, will take place on Saturday May 13 at Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella.

Over 100 golfers are expected to be in action.

Footballer Zarook no more

LM Zarook a top football legend of Kandy, died at the age of 64.

Zarook is an old boy of Siddie Lebbe MV Kandy and led the school in 1976 to become the champions among Kandy schools.

Later he joined the Army and played for nearly eight years.

He also played for Kandy AFL, Madiyamalanka FC, Renown SC and Sri Lanka against Korea in 1983. Later he coached a few schools and Zahira College Gampola was his favorite school.
