A celebrated local jockey L. Ravi Kumar rode four horses to victory on an eventful day as the Edwards Stables recorded four wins in the final horse racing event of the RTC Visit Sri Lanka Horse racing season at the Nuwara Eliya race course last Sunday (23) that also included the coveted prize called the Magic Million Cup.
The four horses were trained by SD Mahesh.
Apart from winning the main Magic Million Cup race, Ravi Kumar also savoured victory laps riding a horse named Crack of Dawn to a stunning victory in the 1400-metre race for horses rated 45 to 60 Handicap to claim the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Trophy.
Ravi Kumar claimed yet another win of the day when he comfortably raced City Shot to victory in the race for half-bred horses run for the Blackpool Hotel Cup. Run over a distance of 1000 metres, Ravi Kumar kept City Shot in the lead from the beginning only to record a win by a broad margin.
In the main race of the day, the fourth, Ravi Kumar and the Edwards Stables combined to record a hat-trick of wins to claim the RTC Magic Million Cup with the horse named Here and Now.
In the opening event of the day Ravi Kumar and a horse named Glittering, a 12-year-ol mare owned by Edwards Stables, made a late start but managed to record a thrilling win by a whisker to clinch the Petmart Trophy. This race was for horses rated 20 to 45 handicap in a distance of 1070 metres.
Indian jockey SJ Sunil recorded his maiden win at the Racecourse in Nuwara Eliya on Cosmic Feeling, as the seven-year-old mare made a brilliant canter in the final straight to win the French Ambassador Cup.
Cosmic Feeling recorded its first win of the season in the final appearance of the RTC #VisitSriLanka Horseracing Season 2023.
