The dual citizen aged 53, who was remanded over the murders in Delft Island, Jaffna, is a father of two children and his wife is said to be a German national, Police media spokesman SSP Nihal Talduwa said yesterday.
Police have sent letters to the relevant Embassy to verify the suspect’s recent whereabouts as part of further investigations, said SSP Talduwa.
The suspect has been remanded until May 8.
In this case, four women and two men, all over the age of 70, were confirmed dead by injuries caused by a sharp object. The motive was to rob the victims of their gold jewellery and other valuables, police said.
The suspect is said to have told the police that he used a knife. The police recovered it together with the gold in the suspect’s possession. Delft Police OIC Matara Arachchi said the last surviving victim, a 100-year-old woman also passed away. Two funerals were held in Jaffna yesterday, two in Mullaitivu, and one in Kilinochchi the day before, Police said.
