Opening batsman Gaviru Senhas stood out as the lone warrior for DS Senanayake College as he made a century (124) in only 105 balls and his team lost to Mahanama College in their annual limited overs match at the R Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
He hit 12 fours and four sixes.
DS Senanayake in the end finished at 208 in 41.3 overs as they set about to chase down Mahanama’s score of 327 for 5 in 50 overs.
For Mahanama, Kavindu Amameth top scored with a fighting 78 while wicket keeper Anjala Bandara 66, skipper Sachira Weliwatta 44, Inuka Karannagoda unbeaten on 57 and Rashmika Perera 29 not out chipped in respectively.
Chasing 328 runs to win, DS Senanayake got off to a good start with their opening batsman Gaviru Senhas in the forefront. Only left hander Himantha Keshan managed to offer Gaviru some support scoring 25 runs.
Sri Lankan under-19 right arm fast bowler Duvindu Ranatunga 2 for 53, captain Sachira Weliwatta 2 for 26 and Chamika 2 for 26 had fine bowling figures for the victorious Mahanama lads.
