
The women’s hockey team of Colombo Malay Cricket Club did well to emerge champions in the nine-a-side hockey tournament conducted by the Colombo Hockey Association at the Astro turf on Saturday and Sunday (25, 26).
Malays CC produced good hockey players in the past and is endeavouring to bring back the past glory in the game.
The re-formed Team this year secured third place in the league, were runners-up in the knock-outs and emerged champions in the nine-a-side tournament to conclude the annual tournaments conducted by CHA.
The squad led by Sri Lanka Masters’ player Nadeera Jayangani was ably supported by her school mate and another Masters player in Dulmini Irangika. The team included vice captain Lashika Dewmini, Laura Edwards, Shalonica Jeevanantham, MHA Udayangani, Chamodi Gunewardena and the sisters Thasuni and Naduni Malwanna, Jemiah Sourjah, Masters player Niroshika Sajeevani and new additions Amasha Saraph and Thanuja Sandamali.
This team has the skill and technical aspects, with years of experience playing through school tournaments against each other in different eras.
They kept the ‘best for the last’ in clinching the coveted 9s Championship trophy, Best Player and Best Goal Keeper awards to seal the 2022 season. (TBR)
