The Schools Volleyball Championship organized by Sri Lanka Volleyball along with the Schools Association for the DSI Championship concluded last Sunday at the Sugathadasa Indoor stadium.
The under 17 championship was won by Hungama Vijayaba National School, Hambantota when they trounced Uhana Tissapura Vidyalaya two sets to one (25-15, 21-25, 27-25, 25-19).
Nethmi Divyanjali of Hungama National School was declared as the Player of the Year to receive the coveted Trophy on offer. Meanwhile Hiruni Praboda of Vijayaba NS and D.M.S. Nisadhi of Uhana Tisapura NS were awarded the Best Setter and Best Spiker Awards respectively.
In the under-19 girls category Uhana Tissapura MV defeated Gankanda MV, Pelmadulla three sets to one (22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18). Chathuri Purnima of Uhana Tissapura received the Player of the Year Award while R.P. Kalhari of Uhana Tissa Vidyalaya, Sanya Sewwandi and Chathuri Purnima received awards for Best Setter, Best Spiker and Best Player respectively.
In the boys under 17 class Loyala College, Negombo beat Pannala National School 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 17-25, 27-25, 15-12) after a close battle. Loyala College players Methum Sathnada de Silva and Nipun Pramod Bandara of Pannala NS were declared as Best setters while Hirusha Perera was named as the Best Player.
The Boys Under -19 title was won by St. Joseph Vaz College in a comfortable manner when they trounced Dhavi Samara MV, Seeduwa in straight sets (25-10, 25-10, 25-20.
