Amid calls for probes and changes in the aftermath of the T20 World Cup debacle, Sri Lanka Cricket in an unprecedented move doled out a further Rs.120 million to what is called the National Sports Fund.
Early this year SLC gave out Rs.100 to the National Sports Fund and doled out a further Rs.22.5 million for athletes taking part in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England in July.
In August SLC gave out a sum of Rs.180 million to the government that it said was for the cancer hospital along with Rs.36 million for members and coaches of the Sri Lanka netball team that won the Asia Cup taking the total amount dispensed this year alone to Rs. 438 million for non-cricket activities.
In a media statement SLC said the latest dole out of Rs.120 million to the National Sports Fund was in keeping with a promise to the government during the Australian tour of Sri Lanka in June/July this year from the sale of tickets.
