Anti dengue programs in schools

23 July, 2022

Secretary to the Ministry of Education Nihal Ranasinghe has issued a circular instructing all school heads to launch programs to eradicate mosquito-breeding grounds in all school premises for the safety of students, teachers and parents with immediate effect.

A special Mosquito Control Day has been declared by the Government on July 25. About 8,000 positive dengue patients have been detected countrywide during the past 20 days.

About 43,000 positive dengue patients have been detected countrywide this year alone. About 1,100 schoolchildren and teachers in the country too are reported to have been affected by dengue.

Taking these facts into consideration, the Education Ministry has instructed all school heads countrywide to expedite activities to control dengue and Covid-19 in order to save the student population.

About 50 positive Covid-19 patients too are found daily these days countrywide and hence, all preventive measures have to be taken by school heads as per the instructions of the Health Ministry, Secretary to the Education Ministry said.
