Stay at home for home gardening, public servants told

19 June, 2022

Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government M.M.P.K. Mayadunne has issued the circular enabling the public servants to stay at their residences on each Friday with effect from June 24 for three months for them to grow fruits and vegetables in their home gardens.

This move is purely to encourage them towards growing food crops to face the future worldwide shortage of food which is now predicted by worldwide economic experts.

Confirming this fact, Kurunegala senior Divisional Secretary R.M.Jayaratne told the Sunday Observer nearly 500,000 home gardens by public servants are to be set up in both Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the North Western Province.
