Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary MP Sagara Kariyawasam was appointed as the Deputy Government Whip by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. MP Kariyawasam received the letter of appointment from Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Prime Minister’s Office in Parliament on Thursday (July 8). Earlier, former SLPP National List MP Jayantha Ketagoda held the Deputy Government Whip post and Sagara Kariyawasam has been appointed to fill the vacancy created by Ketagoda’s resignation. Chief Government Whip and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando and Secretary to the Chief Government Whip of Parliament, Chaminda Kularatne were also present.
Tourism sector employees in the Hambantota district were given the Sinopharm jab yesterday. As the first step, Sinopharm vaccines were given to nearly 1,000 people including 500 hotel employees, 150 safari drivers, tour guides and tourist drivers at four places in the Hambanota district.
