Covid-19 deaths in Sri Lanka surpass 2,000

The highest number of Covid-19 deaths -101 for a single day in the country was reported on Thursday, Health Ministry officials said on Friday. With Thursday’s count the number of Covid-19 related deaths crossed the 2,000 mark, they said.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau (HPB), some 216,134 confirmed Covid-19 cases had been reported from Sri Lanka by Friday morning and at present there were 31, 986 active cases in hospitals.

A total of 182, 238 Covid-19 patients had recovered and had been discharged from hospitals by yesterday morning.

According to HPB sources, the recovery rate of Covid-19 in Sri Lanka is 84.32 percent while it is 82.5 percent in the USA. The global recovery rate is 90.81 percent.

The fatality rate of Covid-19 in Sri Lanka is 0.88 percent and it is 1.24 percent in India. The fatality rate in USA is 1.79 percent.

The global fatality rate is 2.16 percent. A total of 19,828 PCR tests was conducted in Sri Lanka on June 10 (Thursday), the sources said.
