Methnadi advances to Girls’ U-12 semis

Gehansa Methnadi powered her way into the semi-finals of the girls’ under-12 singles event at the Hutch-HNB Clay Court Tennis Nationals, continued at the SLTA Courts at Sri Marcus Fernando Mawatha yesterday.

Methnadi made her intentions clear from the start and rallied around magnificently to overcome Venuli Jayasinghe in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

Meanwhile, Sajida Razick went through some anxious moments before defeating Vishmi Serasinghe 6-3, 6-4 in the girls’ under-16 quarter-final encounter.

Girls’ U-16 singles quarter-finals:

Sajida Razick beat Vishmi Serasinghe 6-3, 6-4. Dinethya Dharmaratne beat Anithra Dharmaratne 6-2, 7-6 (4). Ruvi Lewkebandara beat Nelani Jayasuriya 6-1, 6-4. Hasali Gajaba beat Nishkha Vivekanandan 6-3, 6-3.

Boys’ U-18 singles (3rd round):

Mathisha Nettasinghe beat Nisal Hemakumara 6-0, 6-0.

Boys’ U-16 singles:

Anujan Abeywickrama beat Sands Usgodaarachchi 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.

Girls’ U-12 singles (quarter-finals):

Gehansa Methnadi beat Venuli Jayasinghe 6-1, 6-1. Githmi Fernando beat Sandathi Usgodaarachchi 6-1, 6-3. Movindi Fernando beat Imesh de Silva 6-3, 6-3.

Boys’ U-14 singles (quarter-finals):

Methwan Wijemanne beat Janava de Saram 7-5, 1-6, 11-9.

Girls’ U-14 singles (quarter-finals):

Arushi Thomas beat Inuki Jayaweera 6-4, 4-6, 10-2.
