
Asian Gold medallist Damayanthi Dharsha will contest the post of vice president when Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) conduct their elections on April 24.
The 200m and 400m champion athlete Dharsha retired from athletics in 2007 and will contest through Track Masters SC.
There are seven posts for vice presidents and already 14 nominations have been received. Six men and one woman are expected to be elected. Irangani Rupasinghe (University) is the other woman who has sent in her nomination for the vice president’s post.
The male candidates vying for the posts of VP are Prasanna Indika (Mercantile), Chandana Ekanayake (Kandy), Anil Weerasinghe (Schools), GLS Perera (Lanka Lions), Lal Chandrakumara (Kurunegala), Gnanasiri Silva (Kalutara), AH Akmal (Trincomalle), HW Nimalasiri (Colombo), Major General Mahinda Mudalige (Galle), Major General Narendra Ranasinghe (Army), S. Thanuraj (Kilinochchi) and Ajith Naragala (Ratnapura).
Current president Major General Palitha Fernando, secretary Prema Pinnawale, treasurer Shantha Lal de Silva and recorder Saman Kumara Gunawardena will be uncontested.
With Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) celebrating the centenary year in 2022 these officials are bound to have a grand ceremony.
