The College of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists, Sri Lanka will host its Annual Academic Congress 2021 under the theme “Ensuring Safety and Quality through Education, Training and Capacity Building of Workforce” on January 23 and 24, 2021
The College of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists has a proud history of 63 years since its inception as the Ceylon Society of Anaesthetists in 1957.
It has expanded its services to provide safe and effective anaesthesia, intensive care and pain medicine to the public and has been involved in training and setting standards in anaesthesiology, critical care and pain medicine in Sri Lanka.
The college logo signifies the dedication and commitment of an anaesthetist who remains awake and vigilant while the patient remains asleep under anaesthesia, represented by an owl perched on a shield and is kept free from pain and suffering, as symbolised by entwined poppy leaves on either side of the shield. Success and strength of the College lies in its membership. Despite a limited number of anaesthetists in the country, the College strives and is committed to provide anaesthetic and critical care services to the nation.
In relation to the strengthening of its services through education, the Covid-19 pandemic has provided the College an opportunity to re-think of the annual academic congress to be conducted entirely on-line.
The college will host the 37th Annual academic sessions for the first time as a virtual experience on January 23-24, 2021. Eminent national and international speakers will share their knowledge and experiences on a virtual platform.
