The eighth edition of the Air Force Commander’s Cup 2021 organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force Golf Committee is to take place from January 22-24 at the picturesque Eagles Golf Link situated in China Bay, Trincomalee.
The Championship attracted over 100 golfers from all parts of Sri Lanka and many foreigners during the previous Championship.
This year with the Covid-19 pandemic which has caused many hardships especially for sporting activities the Air Force has taken measures to conduct the Championship following the guidelines specified by Health Authorities.
With these Health regulations in force the organizers expect only a lesser number of foreigners who are interested in golf and domiciled in Sri Lanka to compete along with local participants at this Championship.
These details were disclosed to the media by Air Commodore Prasanna Ranasinghe, Chairman SLAF Golf Committee at a press briefing held at the Air Force headquarters on Tuesday. He further added that Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudharshana Pathirana who is a keen follower of the sport has extended his fullest support to organize this Championship.
Vice President of Dialog Enterprise Navin Pieris addressing the media said that Dialog has been supporting many sports in Sri Lanka and his Company considers this as a privilege to be the main partner to sponsor this prestigious golf championship. He also assured continuous support in the future too.
In addition to the main Commander’s Cup there are few more special Awards on offer, the special Eagles Challenge Trophy for the best golfer from the Tri Forces and awards for Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and for the Minimum Putt in four selected holes.
