Pulayaveli village at Chengaladi, Batticaloa is being given a facelift in a project funded by philanthropists in the UK. A village development management team with the help of the Army eastern command is leading construction work.
Work on a children’s park, one of the features, has been fast-tracked with the other new additions to the village infrastructure to be ready by New Year, project organisers told the Sunday Observer.
The program, which includes a barber saloon and a market place, is sponsored by Eelapatheeswarar Aalayam, an organisation set up by diaspora members who wants to help their brethren in rural areas in the North and East.
Rajasingham Jayadevan, a professional based in London who hails from Pulayaveli is a key figure behind the organisation.
A library started recently in the village is used by the children guided by their Sunday school teacher.
