People’s behaviour will decide on quarantine curfew - Army Commander

20 December, 2020

The people's behaviour in the coming days will decide whether a countrywide quarantine curfew is necessary during the Christmas season, Head of National Operations Centre for the Prevention of Covid-19, Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said dispelling rumours that the country will be under lockdown from December 23.

The Government may be compelled to lock down the country during the festive season due to the reckless behaviour of a few. However, a final decision is yet to be taken by the authorities, he told the Sunday Observer yesterday afternoon. The NOCPCO centre has been receiving calls from Government Agents that people were disregarding health regulations which could aggravate the spread of the virus. The Government is contemplating whether a lockdown would be necessary to prevent holiday travelling, partying and Christmas visits amid cautioning by health officials to strictly regulate people’s movements during the festive season.
