
The Deep depression over Gulf of Mannar sea area is weakened into a depression and remained stationary, located about 145 km to the West of Mannar, stated the Department of Meteorology.
It is likely to weaken into a low pressure area further. Hence the influence of this system to the island is expected to be gradually reduced.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-western and Western provinces and in Anuradhapura and Trincomalee districts. Heavy rainfalls about 100 mm can be expected at some places in Northern and North-western provinces and in Anuradhapura district.
Showers can be expected at several places in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts after 2.00p.m.
Wind speed can be increase up to (40-50) kmph at times in Northern, North-Central and North western provinces.
However, an AMBER advisory for strong winds and rough seas was issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre for the period of 7.00 a.m. to 07.00 p.m. on 05 December 2020.
Wind speed will be (50-60) kmph and wind speed can increase up to 70 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai.
These sea areas can be very rough at times.
Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extendng from Puttalam to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai, until today (05) evening.
