An auction of dogs recently retired from the service of the Police Kennel Division was held in Kandy yesterday. The division said 25 dogs between the ages of 2 - 10 were auctioned.
A dog named Breathe, a Labrador who was attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau was sold to the highest bidder of the day for Rs. 101 000, Police sources said. Among the other service dogs auctioned were Reggie, Betka, Alvin, Bumber, Rosie and Hero. According to the Police, Hero had been used in 350 criminal investigations and 600 drug raids.
