
A sharp drop in reporting Covid-19 patients from only two active clusters, the navy cluster and quarantine camps has been observed during the last week ended today (14), Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.
According to Dr. Jasinghe, the situation in the navy cluster shows a significant improvement and a drop in the number of Covid-19 positive cases, while 84,802 PCR tests have been done so far. People and institutions should strictly follow the health guidelines and operational instructions issued to them, he said.
Epidemiology Unit sources said the recovery rate of local Covid-19 patients, 63.62 percent, is higher than the global level of 51.24 percent. The recovery rate in India is 49.85 and 39.77 in the USA.
The fatality rate in Sri Lanka, 0.59 percent is far less than the global rate, 5.53 percent. The fatality rate in India is 2.87 percent. It is 14.16 percent in the UK and 5.52 percent in the USA, the sources said.
