State hospitals in the North Central Province will be developed under the direction of Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, a Health Ministry spokesman told the Sunday Observer on Friday.

According to the spokesman, there are eight base hospitals in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts. Human and physical resources will be supplied to those hospitals.

There are six dialysis units in the province and nephrologists will be provided for the six units.

A consultant community physician will also be provided for the province.

Minister Wanniarachchi also pledged to provide health staff such as nurses and attendants for the hospitals and dialysis units in the province, he said.

The details of the project were revealed during a discussion held recently at the North Central Governor’s Office with the participation of Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, the North Central Governor Mahipala Herath and other officials, he added.
