Guidelines for a new normal

A set of guidelines for a new normal, formulated by the Health and Indigenous Medical Services Ministry, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Municipal Council with the assistance of the World Health Organization (WHO) has been issued.

The guidelines cover 46 work settings and public activities. The operational guidelines for offices and supermarkets have been issued already. The latest guidelines cover crucial areas such as public transport (buses and trains), taxi services and three wheelers, private tuition classes, weddings, funerals, security guards and communications. The guidelines also cover areas such as places of worship (temples, churches and mosques), construction sites, mobile food vendors, tailors, barber and beauty salons, clothing shops, restaurants, garages, elders’ homes and child day care centres.

According to Health Services Director General, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, state and private institutions and all other service providers and the public should strictly follow the guidelines. The guidelines will be changed from time to time, according to new developments and requirements.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said the public should follow the guidelines strictly to help the health authorities to relax restrictions further. If people do not follow the guidelines the existing restrictions will be tightened to control Covid-19 infections.
