Public transport limited to state and private sector workers

10 May, 2020

The Director-General Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe has informed the Minister of Transport Service Management Mahinda Amaraweera that transport facilities for the public should not be made available for at least another two weeks. This decision has been taken considering that the public may engage in non-essential travel when curfew regulations are relaxed today (May 11).

Accordingly, as per the request of the Director-General Health Services, the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and the Sri Lanka Railways will provide transport facilities only for those engaged in essential services at state and private sector institutes, as previously planned by the Ministry of Transport Service Management.

Minister Amaraweera has also instructed the relevant authorities not to provide transport services by train or SLTB buses for the public.
