The Election Commission has postponed the issuance of preferential numbers to candidates in the upcoming parliamentary election until further notice.
A spokesman for the Election Commission (EC) said yesterday that it was decided to be postponed in view of the extension of the curfew till May 11. Earlier, preferential numbers were to be issued to candidates on May 4.
The EC met the Secretaries of political parties contesting the election, scheduled for June 20, at the Election Secretariat in Rajagiriya yesterday. The meeting was held in keeping with Health Ministry guidelines of social distancing and only one representative was allowed to attend.
