26 April, 2020

A student, Anbumaran Gogul, aged 11 of Kallady, Batticaloa died on Friday (April 24) after consuming cuttlefish, on being admitted to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital.

Five members of the family of seven including the boy who died had consumed the cattle fish and begun to vomit. The other four, admitted to the same hospital are under treatment and medical observation.

It is learnt that they had bought the cuttlefish from the fish market in Kallady. According to the MOH Batticaloa, Dr. K. Kirisuthan who had inspected the kitchen of the victim’s family it had seemed very unhygienic. The assumption was that something would have flown from the roof or elsewhere into the curry and made it toxic.

The Batticaloa Mayor Thiagaraja Saravanapavan visited the affected family at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital.
