The plight of Sri Lankans in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been brought to the attention of Foreign Affairs Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
A founder of a voluntary organisation, Kumuduni Athukorala from the UAE, writing to the minister said even well-wishers find it difficult to help Sri Lankan workers due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Many Sri Lankans in the UAE would lose their shelters due to their inability to bear house rent in the wake of the pandemic,” Athukorala said in the letter.
