The 141st Battle of the Blues annual cricket encounter played between Royal College and S. Thomas College’ which is truly a patronised big match will be played for a cause this year as well from March 12 to 14 at the SSC ground in Colombo.

It was announced at a media briefing held at the BMICH last Wednesday that the value-adding feature to the mega cricket extravaganza would be Rs.1000 contributed for every run scored and Rs.10,000 for every wicket that falls.

The proceeds of this collection would be directed to support and empower selected deserving schools, chosen in direct consultation with the principal of Royal College and the warden of S. Thomas’ College.

Accordingly, last year’s big match collection amounted to a substantial Rs. 5,143,000 and this edition’s amount will be directly donated to ten deserving educational institutions for the purchase of cricket gear.

The school by the sea, the current holders of the DS Senanayake Shield, will be captained by Thevin Eriyagama while the lads from Reid Avenue will be led by Thevindu Senaratne.
