Sri Lankan Sharks ; their identification and natural history will be the focus of the Wild Life and Nature Protection Society’s (WNPS) Marine Chat with Rex Ian de Silva. It will be held on Saturday, January 25 at the WNPS Headquarters at 86, Rajamalwatte Road, Battaraulla from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Rex Ian de Silva is a pioneer Sri Lankan diver,underwater and astro photographer, martial arts Sensei and writer. He is also a recognised authority on sharks, marine life and sea birds.
De Silva is the author of the definitive Sharks of Sri Lanka and approximately 110 other publications. He is a member of the Linnean Society of London and a member of the Institute of Biology (Sri Lanka). In 2013 he was declared an ‘International Legend of Diving’ , the first and only person from the Indian Ocean region to be so honoured. He currently serves as a Field Investigator for the Global Shark Attack File (GSAF).
