Yes, you read that right! The stand up series is back with its fourth installment; Freddy 4 - Get Rich Quick from November 13th-15th of 2019 at the Lionel Wendt Auditorium… all three days leading up to the elections (which is on the 16th)
Freddy first came knocking in through the front door just a few years back taking the island by storm. The show by the theatre group Stage Light and Magic was like no other, these forms of productions seem to give more potential to the arts industry and took on a whole other aspect of theatre and paved the way for more and more explosive art forms from other theatre groups as well.
Colombo is often filled with productions every single year, however, the wild and tempestuous productions are what we need more of now!
Freddy always guarantees you a lot of fun, humorous puns and also savage yet tactical takes on the political setting in Sri Lanka.
The not so PG-rated comedy special is most certainly far from your regular/mainstream show. No matter how scurrilous and slightly vituperative the show is, it always manages to rack up a crowd and have the audience exhilarated.
Written and Directed by Feroze Kamardeen - actor-director; focused on waiving off with the drama aspect when he first drew up the idea and executed it focusing exclusively on stand-up, which an untapped form of art in the island.
Feroze Kamardeen is now a household name for all the spians and lovers of the theatre. Kamardeen has elevated theatre in Sri Lanka with some of his work such as Freddy, The Greatest Rugby Match, Hamlet at Elsie’s Bar and most notably and loved, Pusswedilla (The World Peace Sumitt, Ars Rocks, Arsikland).
From performing at the Wendt to the Temple Trees in front of the Premier himself, Freddy went from being the mysterious person who always seems to be Missing In Action throughout the series to a humorous figure who still remains unknown and from, whom no one is safe! This mysterious figure did work well for the comedians of the past who were part of Freddy and surely will work well for the comedians to come forth.
The Freddy series also brought out the best of some of the best stand up comedians Sri Lanka has already seen in such a short time. Gehan Blok, already a stand up comedy specialist in the country and also a household name now, broke into the scene from the Freddy Series as well with his infamously wild jokes aimed at some of Colombo’s most prestigious schools.
The previous Freddy & Co.’s outing improved the series and elevated it to a whole new level.
Tickets for Freddy are available at the Lionel Wendt.
