Waxed Colombo turns two Milestones in skin and beauty

18 August, 2019

Waxed Colombo celebrates its second birthday this month. Yolande Gunawijeya who runs Borderline Events as well, opened her second salon Waxed Galle recently and hopes to expand further. She talks to Youth Observer of the importance of waxing while introducing the brand’s new body and lip scrubs.

What does it feel like to complete two years with Waxed Colombo?

It's incredible. We reached a milestone and we’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come.

What is in store for Waxed Colombo this year?

A lot will happen this year. There are some fun surprises for our clients. We’re working on more giveaways, promotions and packages. The most exciting news though is that Waxed Colombo is launching a range of lip and body scrubs within the next couple of months.

Will you be introducing new methods of beauty treatment?

Yes, we’ve just introduced the Casamara Facial and we’re also expanding our list of luxury waxes.

How has the brand grown in the last two years ?

Waxed Colombo has grown so much within the past two years as has our client base and it’s been incredible to see the journey. Like any salon we’ve had our ups and downs. The journey has been beautiful to witness. I have no doubt that in the next few years we will grow even more. I can’t wait for everyone else to see what we have in store.

What is the importance of waxing?

Waxing will reduce the amount of hair you have over time and make what you do have, finer and less dense. It can be performed on any part of your body - arms, legs or bikini area. Other forms of hair removal can cause scarring if it’s not done right. Waxing has the added benefit of not only removing hair but also of removing dead skin to leave your skin feeling soft and supple.

You recently opened in Galle. Are you hoping to expand further?

Yes, we're hoping to expand next year. We’re still on the first step in our plan. Right now, our main focus is on opening another salon. We want to do it because it’s the right time and we have the right staff. Our staff go through a tremendous amount of training before they become waxing therapists.

Any tips for someone going in for waxing for the first time?

It is ideal to grow hair out to at least one-eighth of an inch before going in for your first wax. Gently exfoliate the night before or take a warm bath to prep the skin before your wax. Skip the use of lotions - do not apply self-tanner, body sprays, deodorants before your appointment and be in comfy-wear, loose comfortable clothing to prevent irritation after your waxing.
