7 July, 2019

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) will be aggressively looking at increasing its customer base despite the challenges posed by the mobile telecommunication industry.

“We are working towards attracting and reaching one million households during the next two years. With speed and latency as the key component of our efficient service we are confidence that we will be able to reach this target within the set time-frame,” Chief Marketing Officer Prabath Dahanayake said.

The country has a developed infrastructure in terms of the telecommunication industry and it is in the forefront with regard to the latency aspect when compared with other developed countries. SLT is highly dependent on its delivery speed as its value proposition to widen the customer market, he said.

“Apart from our efficient service delivery, we are closely connected to people in many ways. We are engaged in sponsorships in different fields and sports is one of the key focus areas. The latest sponsored event is the ‘SLT Speedup Karting Challenge 2019’ to be held on July 13 at Bandaragama. This event is focused to discover the hidden talent in our youth and take them to international standards,” he said.

Sri Lanka has got talents and skills, but no proper events to showcase them. In a bid to promote activity based leisure tourism in the country, SLT is partnering with Sri Lanka Karting Circuit Bandaragama to promote this sport among the youth.

“Events of this kind will give the right kind of exposure to our youth. Not only Karting, but the SLT is pioneering in e-sports and e-gaming. To this end we are sponsoring our national e-sports team who will be competing in Singapore shortly. There are 15,000 to 20,000 gaming community which is fast growing with exclusive responsible professional gamers. It is important to acquire right kind of skills to reach the world standards and become winners,” he said.

“We are starting a new journey to take Karting in to the next level. With SLT’s capabilities in terms of providing efficient and effective customer service, we consider it our social responsibility to promote sports in the country.

The event which targets race enthusiastics, leisure seekers, corporate and families could be a tool to promote sports tourism in the country,” General Manager Corporate Branding Rohana Ellawala said.

Twelve teams have confirmed their participation in the Karting competition. This year’s competition will be the longest duration competition to be held in the country so far.
