Water purification plant for Katuwangoda

The foundation laying ceremony for a water purification plant and pumping station in Katuwangoda, Malimbada, was held last week.

Minister of Ports Shipping and Southern Development, Sagala Ratnayaka was the chief guest. Acting Minister of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education, Lucky Jayawardana, Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons and Co-operative Development, Buddhika Pathirana, political representatives and Buddhist clergy were also present. The water project estimated to cost Rs. 1.8 billion is due to be completed in 2022. It is expected to provide water to over 200,000 people and number will rise up to 500,000 in 2046, covering the Matara district and a part of the Hambantota district.
