The Constitutional Council has approved Mt. Lavinia Civil Appellate High Court Judge Nishshanka Bandula Karunarathna’s nomination as a Judge of the Court of Appeal.
Justice Karunarathna who was enrolled to the Bar in October 1985, entered the judiciary in November 1988 and was appointed High Court Judge in 2008. After his secondary education at Royal College, Colombo, Justice Karunarathna entered the Law College. In 2006, he was admitted to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. During a career spanning over three decades, he had also served as a Senior Legal Aid Counsel in the Legal Affairs Ministry in the Republic of Zambia and has later acted in the capacity of Principal Litigation Counsel in the office of the Attorney General in Nairobi, Kenya.
