‘Ironman’ - Road closures in Colombo

Several roads in Colombo will be closed today for the ‘Ironman’ competition. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to use alternate routes.

Around 745 athletes from 58 countries will take part in a 1.9 km sea swim, 90km bike ride and a 21.2km run in Colombo. The event is held in partnership with the Ministries of Tourism, Sports, Ports and Law and Order and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB).

Three seaside lanes along Galle Road from Old Parliament roundabout to Galle Face Hotel roundabout will be closed from 3.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. The landside lane will be made available to the public to access the hotels.

Galle Face roundabout will be fully cordoned off from 3.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. However, Police will allow limited vehicle movements to and from Galle Face Hotel.

The Galle Face car park will be closed to the public from 3.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. The bus halt in front of the Old Parliament will be out of bounds from 3.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

The Chaitya Road will be closed from 3.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m and parking will not be allowed from 3.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

Janadhipathi Mawatha will be closed from 3.00 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. However, police will allow limited vehicle movements.

Sir Baron Jayathilaka Mawatha, York Street and BoC Mawatha will be closed from 3.00 a.m. to 11.15 a.m.

Parking will not be allowed along BOC Mawatha from 3.00 a.m. to 11.15 p.m.

Galle Road (Galle Face roundabout to Marine Drive turn off): Both sides of Galle Road from Galle Face Hotel roundabout to the Kollupitiya Junction Marine Drive turnoff will be closed from 3.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.

Marine Drive: Both sides of the Marine Drive from Kollupitiya to Dehiwela Bridge will be closed from 3.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.

The bus stand at the Kollupitiya Railway station will be temporarily shifted to the Kollupitiya Market.
