Sri Pada pilgrimage season begins

The annual Sri Pada pilgrimage season of 2018-2019 began yesterday, December 22 at an auspicious time with a series of traditional religious activities.

Marking the new season, three processions carrying the sacred casket of Relics of the Buddha, sacred objects, and the statue of God Saman from the Sri Pada Raja Maha Vihara temple in Galpoththaawala, Ratnapura, on the Balangoda Road, Palabaddala Road and Hatton Road reached the upper courts of the Sri Pada (Sri Pada maluwa) early morning yesterday.

An organising committee headed by the Chief incumbent of the Sri Pada Temple, Ven. Bengamuwe Dhammadinna Maha Nayaka Thera organised the religious ceremonies. Thousands of devotees observed Sil at the upper court of Sri Pada.

The Sri Pada pilgrimage season of 2018-2019 will end on Vesak Poya Day in May 2019.
