GCE O/L: Results of cheats to be withheld

Results of students who were caught committing examination fraud at the Ordinary Level examinations, which concluded recently, will be withheld, an official of the Department of Examinations said.

According to the Commissioner General of Examinations, B. Sanath Pujitha, the Department has also launched investigations into reported incidents of cheating.

Two people impersonating two students and attempting to sit for the examination on behalf of them were arrested by the police. The incidents occurred during the Mathematics I examination in the Thanamalwila, Bodagama and Kalmunai - Sainthumaruthu areas.

Another suspect was also arrested for impersonating a student for the same paper at an examination centre in Thihagoda, Matara.

A student and a teacher were also arrested by the police in Balangoda after the teacher was caught providing answers to the student through a mobile phone.

According to Pujitha, the students found guilty of committing examination fraud will be barred from sitting for any examinations conducted by the Department.

The evaluation of the examination papers will commence on December 23. The first phase of the process will end on January 1 while the second phase will commence on January 8 and conclude on January 17.
