Minister of Highways and Road Development S.B. Dissanayake said discussions are under way to prove that the Government could muster the support of 113 MPs within the next few days.
If the Speaker convenes Parliament according to the Standing Orders of the House and the Select Committee appointed and agenda prepared by the Leader of the House, the Government is ready to show a majority in Parliament, the Minister told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
The Minister said that the UPFA has 102 votes in Parliament while the UNP has 101. Therefore, the Government will not find it difficult to show the majority in its favour.
“The Government hopes to go for a General Election after the Supreme Court determination. We are sure that the UPFA led Government will score a sweeping victory at the elections,” he said.
Minister Dissanayake said seven operational committees have already been appointed to carry out Government policies and face future challenges against it on the directive of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
