Kandy Sports Club continued their dominance in the inter club Dialog rugby League when they defeated Army Sports Club 38-10 in their third match played at Air Force ground in Ratmalana yesterday.
The winners collect their points through five tries, five conversions and one drop-goal while Army scored two tries.
Place kicker Thilina Wijesinghe produced a best performance in the entire match and converted all five tries.
The Upcountry boys took an early lead when Heshan Kalhara crossed the line in the 11th minute of the game followed by Buwaneka Udangamuwa touching down and both conversions were made by Wijesinghe.
Army scored their first try with their forwards through Pushpakumara and during the first half they had more kick-able penalty opportunities but failed to rake in the points. Kandy led 14-5 at the end of the first half.
On resumption in the second half Kandy’s Danushka Ranjan scored their third try when he received a pass from Arshad Jamaldeen and Wijesinghe made no mistake with the conversion as the visitors led 21-5.
Kandy’s fourth try was scored by Soyuru Anthony and once again Wijesinghe’s accurate kicks brought them the added two points with the conversion.
Army despite being down were not out and made every effort to play a spirited game and were rewarded when D. Adikaram touched down. Kasun Maduranga missed the conversion.
The fifth try for Kandy came through Thilina Wijesinghe in the 65th minute of the game when he received a pass from Anuradha Wilwara who collected one from Danushka Ranjan.
Wijesinghe converted the try.
During the dying stages of the game Kandy went further ahead as fly half Arshad Jamaldeen made a drop-goal for the final scores to read 38-10.
